A mosaic is a work made up of cut pieces – which may be made of glass, mirror, shell, stone or china – these cut fragments are assembled together and glued but with gaps left between them. When a mosaic completed it gains an identity either through a recognisable image or an abstract design. It is an additive medium – one piece follows another – and has been used at least since the fourth millennium BC in this way to decorate and express the needs and feelings of people

This course will teach you all the basic techniques of mosaic making to get you started, you will learn how to plan a design, choose the colours, cut and shape glass, mirrors or ceramic tiles, and paste them into your design
